The 3-day Advanced Certificated Security and Risk Control course is an overview of the main elements of modern-day strategic and operations security, risk and intelligence issues. The training is delivered by leading security experts from the police, military, and security forces operatives. The training is divided into three parts:

  1. Strategic Security and risk - context and emerging threats
  2. Operational Security – terrorism and global threats
  3. Intelligence Issues - gathering, policy, and analysis

The first day explores the current and emerging complex landscape of security and risk issues that face sovereign nations. Key concepts and terms are explained, and their interdependence emphasised in terms of national and transnational security issues and dilemmas.

The second day focuses on global security issues. This element of the course is highly practical in nature.

The third day focuses on the importance and mechanisms of intelligence gathering, analysis, and dissemination.

Day One - Security and Risk Threats 

  • Overview of the current and emerging security issues and threats
  • Spectrum and dimensions of national security: political; economic; energy; food; infrastructure; ecological; and computer-based security
  • Focus on the growing threat from cybercrime and cyber terrorism
  • Role of Dark Net for criminals and terrorists
  • Espionage – growth of data theft: corporate; political; military
  • Role of organised international crime groups
  • Biological threats to national security: pandemics; bioterrorism
  • Money laundering and funding of radical groups and human trafficking

Day Two - Operational Security Threats 

  • Identifying different types of security threats
  • National and global security issues
  • Terminology explained: geopolitical; political geography; geo-economic threats; containment; de-escalation; diplomacy; failed state; insurgency, ; counter-terrorism vs anti-terrorism; intelligence and the intelligence cycle 
  • Geopolitical overview of emerging security threats
  • Water; energy; resource and food security issues

Day Three - Intelligence Issues 

  • Types of intelligence and threat assessment 
  • The intelligence cycle: directing; collecting; processing; dissemination
  • Intelligence that is: relevant, timely, accurate and unbiased
  • Collecting intelligence – environmental scanning and the use of informants, etc
  • Policy development and intelligence
  • Collection of intelligence: human; photographic; signals; open-source; technical; cyber; financial intelligence
  • Money laundering and intelligence gathering
  • Processing and analysis of intelligence
  • Interrogation techniques - Reid technique; detection of lying; enhanced interrogation


The Professional Development Diploma is approved and recognised by the: Continuing Professional Development (CPD):


CPD-Approved LSPR Professional Development Diploma: PR & Reputation Management. The Diploma is awarded with a Pass, Merit or Distinction.


The final Diploma award will be based on the following:
